If you’ve ever seen one of those “suspicious login detected” emails, and had a mini heart attack, you’ll know how important security is. You’ll also know that it’s pretty hard to get people to actually follow the security practices they should. The young devs we support with The Cloud Grant shouldn’t have to toss and turn at night wondering if they’ll wake up with 4000 EC2 instances mining crypto all over the world, or even if they just forget their password.
That’s why we partnered with Yubico (the legends behind the YubiKey) to give away 20 YubiKey 5 NFC’s to the first 20 teens we support with The Cloud Grant. Because free cloud infrastructure + free security hardware is a pretty good deal, right?
Oh, and they also threw in 5 extra YubiKeys for me and future team members to use. If we don’t end up using the rest of them, I’ll give those away too 🙂
So huge thanks to Yubico for your generosity, and support in making large-scale projects accesseble for teens, and making sure they stay secure while doing it. So, if you fancy a little security along with your VMs and DBs, go ahead and apply for The Cloud Grant (if you really need it, of course. Don’t just apply for the free YubiKey.) and you might just get a little gift with it 😉
(Oh, and if you don’t know what a security key is, or how to use it, we will make sure you do before you get one!)
