The Domain Grant
Get a free custom domain for your open-source project.
Having a custom domain makes your project look professional, polished, and real—but not everyone can afford one. The Domain Grant gives free, one-year domain registrations to teen developers working on serious, open-source projects that need a real web presence.
If your project can run fine on a free Vercel, GitHub Pages, or Netlify subdomain, this grant isn’t for you. But if a custom domain is a real necessity, we’ve got you covered.

What You Get
- A free domain for one year – We’ll fund the registration cost so you can focus on building.
- Cloudflare Registrar support – We use Cloudflare for security & reliability.
- No strings attached – Use the domain for your project, no hidden fees or renewal traps.
Important: The domain must be priced at $15 or less for the first year. Premium domains are not covered.
Who Can Apply?
The Domain Grant is for teen developers who meet these criteria:
- You’re under 20 years old.
- Your project is fully open-source.
- A custom domain is necessary.
- The domain you request costs $15 or less.
- You will actually use it—no squatting, reselling, or personal websites.
Important: This is a one-time grant. We cover one domain for one year—that’s it. If you need to renew it, you’ll have to cover it yourself.
To prevent abuse, we do not fund domains for:
- Personal websites (use a free subdomain instead)
- Generic blogs or portfolios
- Reselling or domain squatting (don’t even try)
- Inactive or abandoned projects
- Premium domains over $15
If you don’t actually need a domain, please don’t apply—let’s keep this for people who do.
How to Apply
Applying is easy:
- Tell us about your project – What are you building? Why do you need a custom domain?
- Show us your repo – Your project must be open-source, so we’ll need a link to your code.
- Get set up – If approved, we’ll buy you the domain and transfer it to your Cloudflare account.
Why We’re Doing This
We believe in open access to tech—and that includes making sure young developers can launch projects with a real web presence. A custom domain helps establish credibility, makes projects more accessible, and encourages developers to take their work seriously.
But not everyone can afford one, so we’re stepping in to help—no paywalls, no gimmicks, just support for open-source projects that need it.
Sponsors & Partners
The Domain Grant is 100% funded by sponsors and donors who believe in supporting young developers. If you or your company want to help cover domain costs for student projects, let’s talk.
